When to use laser welding
Laser welding reduces production costs and extends tool life. It is most often used for repairs and modifications:
- cutting tools,
- stamping tools,
- forming tools,
- casting and press moulds.
In automatic and semi-automatic production processes, these tools are subjected to maximum load. Wear or breakage is inevitable. This is where laser welding becomes the ideal solution.
The principle of laser welding
The damaged area is repaired using a laser beam and additional material, which is fed under a microscope to the exact point required. The whole process is controlled by synchronisation:
the pulse of the laser beam,
feeding of additional material,
feed rate.
Thanks to the highly concentrated and thin beam, the energy is delivered directly to the repair site without side radiation. This allows repairs to be carried out with high precision even on very fine details.
Advantages of laser welding
- the possibility of repairing places that cannot be welded by other technologies,
- high precision due to working under a microscope,
- minimal thermal effect on the surrounding material,
- fast and efficient tool refurbishment,
- use of certified additive materials from leading manufacturers.
