Laser welding of metals

Laser welding of metals

For our customers, we do not want to be a mere technology supplier, but a long-term and reliable partner for laser applications such as laser description, welding, cutting, drilling. By partnership we mean comprehensive services ranging from consultation, consulting, testing in application laboratory through custom design, production of single-purpose laser machines to warranty and post-warranty service.

Laser welding is an effective method of joining metal construction materials. It is characterised by high welding speeds, minimal deformation of the parts to be joined and a very narrow heat affected zone.

The laser metal welding technology is suitable where it is necessary to realize very demanding precision welds in terms of quality and in terms of serial and mass production with the requirement of automation of this process.

Advantages of laser welding:

  • easy to achieve narrow and deep welds in a wide range of materials,
  • Laser welding is carried out with a very small energy input per unit
length, resulting in small deformations, small residual internal stresses due to welding and a small thermally affected bandwidth,
  • high labour productivity of the technological process,
  • the inertia of the laser beam is very small, laser welding is therefore suitable for automation,
  • the laser beam can weld locally even in places that are difficult to reach with other welding methods,
  • non-contact welding method,
  • high weld quality,
  • Higher depth of penetration,
  • targeted, small and well localised heat load,
  • welding at high temperatures,
  • 3D contour processing (high flexibility),
  • the result is wear-resistant.

The main areas of application of laser metal welding are:

  • automotive industry,
  • precision engineering,
  • arms production,
  • electrical manufacturing (cell manufacturing, connectors),
  • production of medical technology (dental technology, production of surgical instruments and medical components),
  • machining of thin metal sheets,
  • production of welded profiles and tubes, heat exchangers, shafts, gears, etc.

In addition to manufacturing operations, lasers can also be applied in the repair industry (tool and mould making and repair).

Materials suitable for welding:

  • stainless steel,
  • low carbon steels with a carbon content of up to 0.3% without significant polluting impurities and with a low sulphur content,
  • titanium, zirconium and chrome nickel alloys,
  • aluminium, copper, bronze, silver, gold.

On customer’s request, we can supply single-purpose customized stations or complex welding lines. In our application laboratory, we test samples directly on your parts and recommend the optimal solution.

How the contract is implemented
  1. Verification of feasibility – testing of samples in the application laboratory and checking the permeability of the plastic material.

  2. Design of jigs – production of setting and pressure jigs.

  3. Equipment design – design and manufacture of automated machine, laser installation, programming.

  4. Commissioning – commissioning and recovery of the machine at the customer’s site.

  5. Service – Warranty and post-warranty support.
