ABS – the most common plastic in automotive and electrical engineering
One of the most commonly used plastics is ABS, typical for automotive and electrical engineering. The material is usually black in colour and has good all-round properties. When this plastic needs to be identified, customers often request a high contrast white colour description.
To achieve this effect, a special adjustment of the laser pulse length is required.
Marking of other plastics in black
When marking other black plastics, it may happen that the marking is not visible or does not reach the desired shade. The solution is to add additives to the plastic that will increase the contrast of the resulting label.
Marking of white plastics
The problem with white plastics is the top transparent layer, which can be undesirably melted by the laser. Therefore, a short-pulse, low-frequency laser is necessary for optimum results. The result is a dark and legible marking on the white substrate layer.
