CO2 laser cutting with process head

7. 6. 2023

Innovation knows no boundaries, which is why we are always moving forward at LINTECH. As part of expanding our application portfolio, we decided to develop and integrate laser cutting technology with the use of a process head.

The motivation for this development is to replace the scan head and SAMLight control software in applications where its deployment is not strictly necessary. The cutting head has been integrated on a 150 W CO2 laser, which enables laser cutting of non-metallic materials in thicknesses down to a few millimetres.

A typical example of this application is static beam laser cutting with gas assist, where the positioning of the part is performed by a robotic arm. In this case, the assist gas is fed directly into the cutting head’s output nozzle, blowing the fused material away from the cutting area. At the same time, the process head is cooled and the focusing optics are protected. The robotic arm then moves the part along pre-programmed trajectories that follow the contour being cut. The result is a very high quality, scar-free, thermal-influenced cut.

The application of this application can be found in the trimming of spout systems, trimming of bridges or in the continuous cutting of non-metallic materials (plastics, textiles…). In the video you can see a demonstration of cutting a part of a plastic part.
