The concept of laser engraving is well known and most people know what they mean by this term. We explained the difference between laser engraving and marking or laser marking in a previous article entitled: The difference between laser marking and laser engraving. Now we will take a closer look at laser engraving, specifically engraving datamatrix codes.

Engraved damatrix codes carry manufacturing information and have a huge durability, which is very important in terms of traceability. They are visible even with greater abrasion, even after surface treatments such as sandblasting or painting, which is a great advantage.
LINTECH, a company specializing in laser technology, has developed and constructed a special laser safety head for DMC laser engraving. This unique device engraves the datamatrix code into the aluminium casting at the very beginning of the production process.
The casting can be laser engraved with DMC immediately after casting (the temperature of the part exceeds 200 °C).
The laser safety head is laser safety class 1 due to its unique design.
Laser engraving with the laser safety head is very precise and has a high repeatability.
The laser safety head achieves laser engraving depths of up to 0.3 mm in a relatively short time.
The quality of datamatrix codes created by laser engraving is higher compared to codes created by micropoint or other conventional technologies. This is particularly evident in the verification of these codes after subsequent surface treatments.
When creating DMC codes, it is important to achieve sufficient perpendicularity of the module walls so that the shadow can be formed better and the code can be read more easily. This can be achieved better with a laser safety head than with a microblade.
Unlike the micro-point tip, which can degrade due to material fatigue, the laser beam is stable allowing high process repeatability. For these reasons, laser engraving is the best solution in most cases.
We can demonstrate most of the technologies we offer live or make samples.
The supplier LINTECH is a long-established supplier for Varroc Lighting Sytems, which is used on projects both in Varroc’s parent plant in Nový Jičín and in the subsidiary plant in Rychvald.
We have purchased a machine for laser marking of castings from LINTECH. We highly appreciate the quality and speed of technical support from LINTECH in dealing with new requirements from our customers.
Since 2017 we have purchased 3 laser marking stations from LINTECH. The machines have been designed to suit our type of production (piece production of steel components for mechanical seals), i.e. with an emphasis on variability and easy reconfiguration. The machines work as they should. The change in marking technology has also brought time savings in the process and comfort of work (after breaking through the initial resistance, the change was positively received by the operators).
The company LINTECH adapted to our requirements to the maximum, designed and constructed for us the equipment according to the specified parameters for laser welding of plastics, metals and the description of the mentioned materials.
