Laser station for cutting PUR seals

Laser station for cutting PUR seals

During the production of PUR seals, an overflow of up to 1 mm can occur, which is undesirable from a functional and design point of view. Trimming these overflows is a necessary step to ensure consistency and reliability of the final product. To meet customer needs, we designed an automated PUR seal laser trimming station to ensure efficient and accurate removal of unwanted overflows.

The customer required a solution that would guarantee accurate and fast removal of overflows without damaging the seal structure. Our application laboratory allows us to carry out tests with prototypes and subsequent verification of the suitability of the solution, which gave us the opportunity to carry out thorough testing of different technologies. Based on these tests, we selected the 75W CO2 laser, which has proven to be the most effective for precise removal of overflows without affecting the integrity of the seal.

The automated station is designed as a carousel-type device where the operator places the seal on one side while the laser cutting process takes place inside the device. This system allows for continuous operation and optimized productivity.

The basic function of the station is to accurately position the laser beam on the edge of the seal, which is then rotated 360°, allowing cutting from both sides. The total time for trimming overflows from both sides of the seal does not exceed 10 seconds.

The laser system is complemented by a compressed air offset that prevents material from burning and a powerful extraction that eliminates fumes during the trimming process and ensures a clean and safe working environment. An integrated crop collection point simplifies maintenance.

To ensure accurate sealing, sealing fixtures were designed and successfully tested and integrated into the equipment. They allow the precise positioning of seals of different diameters and shapes in the optimum position for trimming. The fixtures are easily replaceable. Different seal shapes can be trimmed efficiently by using the deflection head.

LINTECH Application Laboratory

LINTECH’s application laboratory played an important role in the development of this solution. By testing different configurations and laser parameters, we achieved optimization for specific requirements on customer prototypes. This lab activity ensures that the proposed technology is ready for implementation in a real production environment, minimizing the risk of unexpected problems during production rollout.

We can demonstrate most of the technologies we offer live or make samples.
